Mary Fogg Therapy

Psychotherapeutic Counsellor
About
Hello, I'm glad you're here. I'm Mary, a BACP-registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor offering relational, thoughtful therapy for adults. Here you will find a warm, reliable and non-judgemental space where you can begin to make sense of what feels difficult, confusing or overwhelming. Many of the people I work with are used to appearing as though they are coping on the outside, while feeling something very different underneath. My approach is pluralistic, meaning I don't work from one fixed method as different people need different things from therapy. We work together to find out what feels most helpful for you, with the therapeutic relationship at the heart of the work.I am particularly drawn to working around themes relating to relationships, anxiety, loss, work pressure, life transitions and complex family dynamics. Alongside my professional training, my work is informed by life experience which has shaped my capacity for empathy, resilience and a deep understanding of the complexities of life. I believe in people's capacity to grow, adapt and find their footing, even through difficult times. Before I became a therapist, I worked in a range of roles alongside the Performing Arts which has shaped my awareness of the stresses some people face in creative industries, where identity, performance, and emotional exposure can significantly impact wellbeing. I have a special interest in TV production welfare.I also have several years' experience with Samaritans, where I continue to volunteer. This, along with my training and lived experience has shaped my capacity to stay present with distress and hold difficult conversations with care and steadiness.
How I Work
PLURALISTIC THERAPY
My approach is Pluralistic, meaning I draw on different therapeutic models depending on what feels most helpful for you. This includes elements of Person-Centred Therapy (client-led supportive relationship, helping a person to fulfill their potential) Psychodynamic Therapy (exploring past experiences and patterns), and CBT (focusing on thoughts, feelings and behaviours). In practice this means we might focus on your current thoughts and patterns, explore how past experiences may be influencing how you feel today, and work at a pace that feels supportive and manageable for you. I aim to offer a collaborative space where we can think together about what you need from therapy and what feels most useful as we go along, rather than following a single fixed method.
BRIEF THERAPY
Usually short-term (can range from 1-8 sessions) solution focused therapy, with the central themes around the setting of goals and how to achieve them.
ECO THERAPY
I also offer eco-therapy, often called nature therapy, or walk-and-talk therapy where we take a walk in a safe, open, daylight green space. Fresh air can help calm the nervous system and being out in nature can help to support depression, anxiety and stress. Please feel free to get in touch to enquire more about this.
